Venue.

We moved to Cilcelyn in 2020 from my childhood home in Aberystwyth. The church was lovingly converted into a beautiful, warm, light & energy-efficient home by the previous owners.

It’s the perfect house for an aerialist! The rigging was installed by aerial rigger Simon Edwards. There are three drop-in lines and a working height of approximately 5 metres. In the summer, there’s also room outside for my 7m iJuggler aerial rig.

You can read about the history of the building - formerly St David’s Church, built in 1894 & closed in 2002 - on the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales Coflein website.

Directions

From the south (Cardigan 25 mins)

Take the A487 north. Turn left at the bus stop in Pentregat signposted Pontgarreg/Llangrannog/Greenfields/Ski Slope. After a mile, take the right turn signposted Blaencelyn. Follow this wiggling road (ignoring the second sign to Capel-y-Wig - not us!) until you reach a T junction with a house on either side. Turn left and you will see the church on your left past a row of bungalows.

From the north (Aberystwyth 45 mins)

Follow the A487 south. After you pass through Synod Inn, continue for 2.2 miles and take the right hand turn signposted Llwyndafydd/Cwmtydu (the next right hand turn after you pass the sharp double bends and Gellie Campsite). Once you’ve turned off the A487, continue for half a mile and take the left turn in the middle of a long avenue of beech trees (signposted Blaencelyn). Follow this winding road for 1.5 miles until you reach the church.

From the east (Carmarthen 45 mins)

If you’re coming via Ffostrasol/Plwmp, go straight over the crossroads with the A487 opposite Plwmp Post Office. Turn left at the junction shortly after, and then left again in the avenue of beech trees (signposted Blaencelyn). Follow this winding road for 1.5 miles until you reach the church. If you’re coming via Newcastle Emlyn, follow signs to Aberporth then turn right (north) onto the A487 opposite Tanygroes garage, then follow the directions from the south (see left).
